When Netflix failed to deliver Mary Poppins in time for Family Movie Night (because I never sent back or even watched the previous movie in the queue - still haven't) a couple of weeks ago, we dug through the DVD collection and pulled out Singing in the Rain. I'm not usually a fan of old musicals, but this one is special. I think Gene Kelly is pretty much the prequel to Jackie Chan as far as athleticism in acting goes. And he can sing alot better than Chan can.
Two of a kind.
The Mean Girl
Wonder Red has seen the movie several times. It was one of the few that didn't scare her when she was little. However, after a few viewings, we noticed a tendency toward temper tantrums afterwards, so we quit watching it for a long time. I have no idea why Singing In The Rain would cause a temper tantrum. Red was fascinated by Cyd Charisse, whom she called the Mean Girl, so maybe there was some channeling going on there. We decided it was worth another shot. Plus, Princess Pea had never seen it before, at least, not since she was old enough to focus her eyes on the screen.
So how did we do? Well, let's just let the following video, taken during the Broadway Melody number, speak for itself.
