The Winds of Change Are Blowing

Looking back at the movies we've watched over the last couple of months, I'm beginning to think that the premise of this blog may be flawed. Wonder Red has not been frightened or overwhelmed by any of it. In fact, she's relished some of the more exciting bits that would have given her nightmares even last winter.

Not scary for my girls.
Last week, while I was at work, the nanny let the girls watch The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Wonder Red has read that book, but, lovely as I found the movie, I thought it would be too much for her for at least a couple of years. CommonSenseMedia rates the movie ON for 9 years old, with the principle reason being scariness.

It is true that neither girl went to sleep until 10 pm that night, but neither did they mention the movie or being afraid. They were just wired that day. Probably from the movie, but maybe not. So maybe our days of compromising on movies are coming to an end. Maybe our patient pre-screening and co-watching and endless night-time reassurances after bad dreams have finally paid off. Maybe, we now have two little girls who not only love, but can handle, the same the kind of exciting, stimulating movies we watch. Maybe we have finally reached the point where researching movies for Friday night is going to be about finding something good instead of finding something safe.

Oh frabjous day.
